Relieved.
That’s all I’ve felt since I came back from the trip and it’s all thanks to Marcus.
I don’t know if I’ve ever been more satisfied than I am at this very moment. The mere thought of him forced a smile on my face as I chopped off some carrots on the chopping board.
I needed to make a quick breakfast and get back to my phone. It’s been 11 calls, 24 texts, and 3 sex chats since the day we returned.
I can’t even think of a time when it wasn’t this way- peaceful, natural, and blissful. Nothing prepared ne for the happiness I now feel and I’m definitely going to protect it at all cost.
My phone buzzed on the counter and my first reaction was to drop the knife and rush to grab my phone.
“Ourghh,” I muttered when I saw it was Chloe. Not a bad thing, I just thought it was Marcus calling for the third time this morning.
“Hey!!” She yelled when the call connected and her face came on the large screen. She was wearing a suit jacket and I could tell she was getting ready to leave for work.
Ourgh- for me, I’d resume tomorrow. I need the full day to tidy up things and clear myself on how to act around Marcus again.
I knew going to this event with him would change something between us but I just couldn’t tell if it would be a good change or bad. Well, it’s the former and I have never been more happier about a connection.
“You look- I don’t know, you look happy and I love that for you
I adjusted my phone on the table so she could see my face clearly as I continued with my cooking.
“I think I’m happy too.” A laugh formed on my face and I used my hands to cover my mouth. “I’m sorry, I just don’t know how to act.”
“What the hell is going on?” She asked with a chuckle. “You need to tell me right now.”
“Of course I will.”
“First. How did it go? Got into any problems?”
“Why?” I asked her with a frown.
“I mean- you went to confront Mr. Hills about not letting Nate join. That may have caused a second strike, don’t “Oh!!” I mouthed. “Not at all. Actually, I got to give the speech for the presentation”
A loud sound followed and she began cheering from the other end. “Oh my God! That’s so great.”
“Hmm–hmm.”
“I’m really happy for you, Mels.”
“Yeah, me too but I’m more excited about something else.”

“I think I’m in love. I don’t know, I just feel uh- really good. Like I’m at peace, there’s a lot of happiness and I can’t explain
it.”
Chloe looked at me like she just saw a ghost and so I had to pause and lead into the phone. “What? You’re no longer happy for me?”
“Not that. It’s just that- you never mentioned it before and in such a short while you already feel this way for some new guy?”
“Ourghh,” I dragged.
“Okay okay. Have you told Nate at least?”
“No way,” I blurted. “You and I know how Nate is with news like this. I don’t even want to talk about him.” I suddenly frowned at the thought of the attitude he exhibited. “Would you believe he never called me?”
Her jaw dropped. “Are you for real? This means Nate isn’t this guy.”
I frowned. “Of course not. Did you think it’s “I paused. “No, it’s not him. No way. That guy is just a crazy arse and I’ll make sure I smash his head the next time I see him.“”
“Hmm.”
“And girl, you have no idea how good this feels.” I licked my lower lips. “I mean- the way I feel. The butterflies are so surreal.”
“I surely have no idea but all I know is you’re too excited for someone you have just a crush on.”
“It’s not just a crush.” I waited to get her reaction and then continued. “Here’s the tea. He knows how to make me scream. Fuck, I can’t even explain.”
At this point, I could tell Chloe was already tired of listening to me blab but she gave me her undivided attention still. “It’s not the right time to say but I promise you’ll know more once I can give more.”
She simply gave a nod and raised her hands in the air in consensus. She wasn’t going to push further or make me say anything that I wasn’t ready to say yet.
I’d tell her about Marcus and the whole truth but I have to be certain whatever we have is worth taking bullets for. “I just want you to be fine, baby. ”
I gave a nod. “How about you? How’s your husband? You’ve barely said a thing about him.”
“I couldn’t interrupt your stories. I hate to cut your happiness short
“You know thats not why. Is everything okay?”
“Of course it is. I’d uh- I’d send your regards to Frank.”
“I’d love that. I kind of had a lot to drink last night and I still feel nauseated.”
“What the hell are you even celebrating?” She asked.
not just to life, with full force baby.” My eyes darted to the chair and then back “Let’s say, my sex life coming back to life and to the phone. “Isn’t that enough reason to be celebrating?”

Before she could decide whether to answer my question or not, a knock came on my door and the door creaked open.
I looked over my phone and when I saw him my jaw dropped. “Shit.”
I turned back to the screen. “Speak of the devil. I’ll call you back, bye.”

I ended the call and placed the phone on the counter before walking toward him. Nate was dressed in a white T–shirt and loose pants.
When I reached where he stood, I stopped. “What are you doing here?”
He exhaled audibly first and then looked at me. “To see you, Melissa.”
