Chapter 94
Melissa
To see me? It made little sense that he would let just a simple argument come between us and make him ignore me for days. Fuck, I needed him in the first days of the trip when Marcus was doing all he could to frustrate me.
Nate gave a small nod and puffed out air. “I overreacted and I’m sorry.”
If I’m being honest, Nate has changed a lot. Back when he used to be just a colleague and the guy who made the silliest jokes, he’d never apologize. He’d take it upon himself to make you feel like you owe him an apology.
Now, he was here in my apartment, with this puppy eye and lips held to the side. I know I can’t be mad at Nate for so long cause I need him. I can’t be without a single friend even though Marcus is now willing to be available.
“What?” he asked when he noticed I was lost in my thoughts for a second. “Did you even hear what I said?”
“Unless you said something other than sorry.” I rolled my eyes at the end of the sentence for him to see how he looked saying it.
“Mels.”
“What exactly are you sorry about?” I asked folding my hands across my chest. My stomach did that little tightening thing again as I waited for his response.
“It just felt hurtful okay? I know I said really mean things to you that I shouldn’t have ever said. Thing is, in all the years that
I’ve worked for Hills, he’s never given an opportunity worth it. It’s always been the crumbs and this time when I felt it was about to change, you get the slot instead and after the club thing, Andra gets chosen over me.”
“Really?”
Nate frowns. “Why are you looking shocked? Hills doesn’t like his employees dating, flirting, or fucking each other.” I rolled my eyes and Nate continued. “Except when it’s him, of course.”
I glared away. “That’s his policy.”
“Well that’s bullshit and he knows. Fucking your colleague doesn’t make anyone less efficient or stop Othe his son’s medical bills.”

My heart skipped at that moment. Did Nate also know about Ian’s condition? Then how the hell did I not know about this??
“Uh-”
“You really think it was normal? Taking Andra with him?”
I swallowed hard at the question and Nate scoffed. “She isn’t even half as smart as any of us.”
He was right and that was exactly why she fucked us all up with that speech and I had to crawl out of Marcus‘ muscular arms to get a fucking speech for the presentation drafted out.
“It’s just so clear that they are fucking. Now who keeps violating policy made by himself?” His voice then lowered to a mere whisper. “You think he’s a saint who doesn’t fuck his employees?
Another lump formed in my throat and I fought so hard to keep my facial expression plain. Nate’s eyes darted sharply to the couch and his brows arched. I followed his line of vision and shit.
My vibrator? How on earth did I leave it there?!

“Uhmmm, are you…?” He cleared his throat loudly, “Sorry, were you-”
“No no,” I blurted before he could finish.
“Mels did I interrupt?”

“No Nate, I wasn’t. If I was do you think I would have stopped midway and opened the door for you?” I asked rolling my eyes at him.
“Oh, it’s just…”
“It’s just nothing, Nate,” I said sounding irritated already as I walked to the couch and took the vibrator, placing it under the pile of clothes there.
“As you can see, I just came back and was unpacking my bag that’s why it happened to be there,” I said, chiding myself inwardly for explaining to him.
He nodded his head and swallowed before darting his eyes back to the couch.
“You sure you’re not”
“Nate. Really, believe me, I’m okay. I don’t need anything now. I told you, I’m not horny, I just came back and was unpacking. I didn’t even use it there. I didn’t see the need to.”
As soon as I said those words, I could feel my cheeks getting red as the memories of the sex I had with Marcus came back
I quickly turned my back to Nate so he wouldn’t see my flushing face.
“You sure you’re okay, Mels? You don’t look okay.”
I wanted to throw a word back at him but I knew it would be weird if I did so while facing the other side so I made a move toward the couch and grabbed the vibrator, taking it inside the room.
I had left Nate standing in the middle of my sitting room wondering if something was wrong but I didn’t care.
Casting a side look into the mirror to make sure that I wasn’t blushing anymore, I immediately went back to meet Nate.
“I assume its presence on the couch here was bothering you so I took it away. What do you say now? Much better right?” I asked him dryly.
He nodded his head, still giving me that weird look.
“So….what…?” I was about to ask when my phone buzzed and I saw a text from Marcus.
I couldn’t read it all but I could tell what the context was about.
“You know that you’ve been acting weird, right? Melissa?” Nate asked, sounding worried
“Oh wow, I had no idea. Maybe it’s because I need more sleep?” said, giving him a hint. But the poor guy was so dumb that he couldn’t take a hint even
it was flashed before him with billboards.
“I’m asking you to leave, Nate. I need to sleep, as you can see I just arrived.”
He nodded his head, still looking at me with a strange look in his eyes.
“Fine. We’ll talk later, Mel

I sighed with relief as soon as he walked out of the door and immediately turned to the bedroom, grabbing my vibrator as I texted Marcus.
