Chapter 95
Melissa
It has become a habit to always get on a call with Chloe before we begin our day and I must say this has helped us.
The suggestion was brought by Chloe when she saw we both had busy jobs and this is the only way to go about our lives and remain connected. Chloe is definitely the big sister I never had and the friend I wished Helena was.
“Why are you in such a good mood?” she asked and I stared narrowly at the screen of my phone.
“I’m always in a good mood.”
“Nah, this mood is highly suspicious. I can’t seem to wrap my hands around why you’ll be so excited this morning.” She paused. “Tell me everything that happened last night. All the juicy details.”
I laughed at her curiosity and shook my head. “There’s really nothing.” I paused. “Oh!! Except that I am so fucking in love and I had a good time last time.”
I watched her adjust her earphones just so she could listen to me but despite how close we are, I just feel like I can’t talk all nasty with her.
I’ve never really talked nasty with anyone else other than Marcus and that’s because with him, I can be my wildest without judgment. He’s been the only one who has fulfilled some of my fantasies, read them, and knows me for what I am.
Okay?” Chloe asked. “Was he the one that came in and made you end the call?”
The smile on my face was replaced with a frown. “Hell no. That was Nate.”
She laughed. “I still can’t believe you’re capable of falling for someone this deeply.”
“Deeply is a myth.” I reached for my coat and wore it over my dress. I hadn’t meant to sound sarcastic but Chloe was beginning to get sarcasm the way I intended for her to do.
I got into the elevator and continued looking at my screen. “It just feels really good. The way he talks treats me–I just feel really blessed, Chloe.”
She didn’t feel excited and I didn’t mind. I was the one experiencing the whole euphoria so it didn’t matter if anyone else understood what I was truly experiencing.
Her lips meshed together and before I could think of anything else to say, the claws of the elevator opened and Nate walked
- in.
Chloe cleared her throat. “So who’s the man? Tell me his name at least.”
I swallowed hard because it was so clear that Nate heard her. He smirked and turned to look at me but I brushed off whatever reaction he was expecting.
“Uh-“I looked at my screen. “I have to go. Talk later Chloe, love you!” I shoved my phone into my coat and clung my bag to my shoulder. I really wished the ride would end already but then–it had only just begun.
I looked at Nate who had his brows arched. “So there’s a man, hm?”
“What?” I asked him, pretending not to hear what he had to say,
I knew he was definitely going to try and get the things out of me and even to make me reveal who the man was but that isn’t going to work.

Chapter 95
“On the call, she was asking who the man is and now I’m dying to know who the man is also. Don’t leave the both of us curious, who is he?” He asked with a smile on his face.
77%
“There’s no man, Nate. And you really shouldn’t be listening in on other people’s conversation,” I said, trying to change the topic.
He scoffed and leaned against the elevator wall.
“I wasn’t eavesdropping. I couldn’t help but overhear it. What else did you expect when you placed your phone on speaker?”
He was right but I’ll be damned if I agree with him openly.
“Well, that’s about that. Guess we’re both at fault here,” I didn’t want it to have to come to this point but I guess gaslighting him also works.
“Whatever,” He said, frowning at his phone.
“What about your ex? The one who’s so obsessed with you and won’t let you breathe?” I asked, turning the tables on him.
He didn’t say anything but kept quiet, focusing on his phone, acting as if he didn’t hear my question.
“What’s wrong? Cats got your tongue? I thought you were all about being curious, not letting one die of curiosity and all that. See? We don’t always have to know everything. No matter how curious we are.”
He looked up at that and stared at me for some time. Just as he was about to say something, the elevator door dinged and opened.
It was my floor.
“Well, see you later, Nate,” I said, waving at him as I walked out, pretending as if I had no idea that he wanted to say something.
I just wasn’t ready for a long conversation with him.
I clocked into the office right on time as it was exactly the time I was supposed to be in the office.
Humming softly, I sat on my chair, murmured my greetings to the rest of the team around me, and had a quick glance through my schedule, hoping that I’d have enough time to do my work.
Satisfied with it, I decided to go to Marcus‘ office as I was dying to see him. The conversation we had last night was still repeating itself like an old cassette in my head and I just couldn’t wait for him to do the things he said he was going to do to
- me.
I was about to turn to knock on his door when someone in his office spoke, interrupting me from my daydream and wiping the smile off my face.
“Tell me, come on, it’s got to be her. I mean Mel’s the only person who I know was around you this period,” A voice that I immediately recognized to be Paul’s said.
I was smiling, waiting for Marcus‘ response, wondering if this was how he’d reveal our relationship.
“She’s not on my league, Paul. You of all people know that and if I was in anything serious then you’d know too.”
“Hmmm.”
My heart squeezed in my chest in that very second and I lost my stability.
There’s nothing serious going on between us.” Marcus finished.
