Chapter 91
Marcus
I could feel the light glittering and that stirred me up from my sleep. I rubbed my eyes gently and turned, feeling the empty bed.
Whenever Melissa sleeps beside me, it’s always this way. It feels like the best sleep I’ve ever had and no matter how hard I try to deny it, everything just keeps bringing me back to that awareness.
I groan softly as I opened my eyes and found Melissa sitting on my working desk. I squinted and then peeped open my eye. She was already dressed and if I am not mistaken, her hair and makeup was already done. Shit. How long did I sleep?
I quickly reached for my phone to check the time and that drew her attention to me.
“Hey,” she said with a small smile. “Morning.”
“Morning,” I answered as I sat up on the bed and rubbed my eyes again. “What time is it?”
She paused to look at the screen of the monitor. “Seven twenty. I made you coffee.”
“Ourgh thanks. What are you doing?” She looked too engrossed in whatever it was and that only made me wonder what it
was.
“Trying to craft the perfect business speech. We have about three hours before the main event.”
“Hmm,” I answered quite impress. “And you don’t need help?”
“I guess that would depend on the type of help you’re offering.” She looked at me briefly and I chuckled lightly.
I leaned against the headboard and raised the cup of coffee from the table. I took a sip, pleased at how she could make the perfect coffee my taste bud needed at the time. “This is-”
She walked toward the bed and handed me a paper. With her brows raised, she waited for me to finish my sentence.
“What?” I asked.
“You were going to say something.”
“Yeah. The coffee is superb. Is there something else?”
She shook her head in disapproval. “No. Could you glance through this piece and let me know if it’s suitable?”
I looked at the paper that was already in my hands and lowered it to the table. “If you did it, then I don’t have to check it.”
“Marcus you-“
“You’ve handled harder things. I know what I’m talking about. When it comes to your abilities, they’re beyond me.” I stood up and patted her shoulder gently. “I should freshen up and prepare. Today’s going to be such a great day.”
She still stood there and I craned my neck to look at her. “Why are you standing still?“,
She shrugged. “I’m trying to gather my thoughts.”
“Why?”
“Cause when you said I’ve handled harder things, I swear that was the most perverted thing I’ve ever heard.

I grinned hard because that was exactly what I meant and I was glad she had a mind as dirty as mine to understand that. “You must be very perverted then.”
She frowned and I looked at her. “Well, I have to shower. You can have it binded. You’ll be taking the speech.”
“Me??” she asked.
“Yes. Didn’t we say something like that yesterday?”
“I–I uh,” she paused to swallow hard. “I thought you would take it and I was just playing around. Besides, I just wanted to make up for Andra’s miss by crafting this out. For you to say of course.”
“Too late,” I huffed and her eyes followed me around the room.
need to pick an outfit.”
“Marcus.”
“Would you kindly help me pick? Since I didn’t get to pick for you today.”
She took a second to do nothing and then walked toward me. Motion sensor lights brightened the wardrobe as we approached it.
The suits were lined up, all expensive and tailored to perfection. She looked at each of them carefully before her fingers traced the Brioni’s fine fabric.
“That one?” I asked her. It was a grey suit and I felt she was tired of seeing me wear grey all the time but she gave a nod instead. “I like the grey suit. It matches the g–string I’ll be wearing today.”
A lump formed in my throat. “Thanks, now you may go ahead and prepare for the presentation. Remember a good speech is the fastest way to be a known brand. With that, I took the hanger from her hands.
“Marcus,” she called when I was half–gone. “I don’t know if you remember but you mentioned something last night and it’s been on my mind ever since.”
“Hmm. I know I said a lot of things. Which are you referring to?
Her lips parted and she tucked her hair behind her ear. “You said Ian is not fine.”
I looked at her. “Did I say that?”
“Yes, I’m very sure you said that. I can even remind you when you
said-”
Of course I remember saying it. I just felt the need to blurt out what was bothering me the most. “Yeah but he’s in recovery.”
“Oh. What exactly is wrong with him?” Her voice was calm and I could sense that she still cared about him. I never got to know what really happened with them so I thought of asking. “You still care about him, don’t you?”
“Just like any reasonable person would. It’s called empathy.”
“Or love. This is someone you dated, fucked, ate with and-”
She shrugged uncomfortably. “I do not love Ian. Not anymore and for the records, that love ended the moment he fucked my friend.”
My jaw dropped at the sudden confession. I looked at her and she sighed in frustration. “I’ll just go ahead with this.”
She turned to leave but there was no way I could let her leave like that so I grabbed her arm. “I didn’t know that Melissa.
“Of course.”
