Chapter 76
“Here you go,” A voice called and made me turn. It was a young lady dressed in uh–a black turtle neck and a fitted skirt with a belly belt. She had her curly hair clipped up but some strands found their way to the front to give her a stylish hairstyle and fuck, she is beautiful.
I shook my head when I realized I was staring too hard and I was a bit distracted. “Sorry.”
“I’m Leila and I was told I’d join you. Just beside you and uh–I guess there,” she said pointing at Chloe’s table.
“Oh,” I managed to blurt and gave a small smile. “Melissa.”
“Yeah, heard your name but should I be honest? I heard it from cuss.”
Her lips pouted and moved to the side like a little puppy. She did look young, possibly the same age as I am or even
younger.
“I bet you did,” I responded and tilted my head to the side. My eyes trailed till they landed on Andra who had a scowl on her face. I wasn’t even doing anything to frustrate her or shit.
“I guess she was just overworked and all.”
“Hmm.”
I turned my face away and shit, I lost tab on where Nate had entered. I looked through shoulders and the busy heads in the office trying to see if I could find his fucking blue jean jacket.
“Are you alright?” my new colleague asked as she sat down and tried to arrange her things on the table. Well, she’s lucky I’ve always kept Chloe’s table neat despite her moving. I have never dusted my table without dusting hers or even letting anything just go wrong.
table.” “I’ll take that,” I blurted and snatched a small vase on the table. She frowned and I figured I acted on impulse. “Sorry, it’s just for my friend and you know what they say about keeping memories right? I think I want this one on my
I placed the small vase on my table and forced a smile to my face. “See? It fits.” My head turned one miraculously found Nate by the door. “Excuse me.”
last time and I
I stood to my feet and then cleaned my hands on my skirt and walked toward the door. He better be on his best character ‘cause I mean–well, I don’t mean anything.
“You really think a single sorry can fix it?”
“I’m sorry but I already said no.”
“Don’t even think of it.”
“This isn’t going to work. I’m really done.”
“No. Why? You said it yourself.”
I swallowed hard as I listened to his one–sided conversation. It wasn’t really hard to tell what was going on. He has never mentioned it but I know he has an ex who is quite a stalker and is bloodily obsessed with him.
I looked at his face and he had this strain look. “You know what? I better get going. I’m at work and I shouldn’t be arguing or doing this with you.”
“Yes, I mean it. Don’t.” He ended the call and then I cleared my throat behind him just in case he didn’t realize someone was around there.

Chapter 76
“Hey.”
He peered up from the phone. “Hey.”
“I guess it’s your ex–girlfriend,” I said obviously jumping to conclusions. “How’s it going?”
He scowled, slipping the phone into his trouser pocket. “We’re not together and that’s how it’s going.”
“C’mon Nate,” I dragged. “Are you still mad at me?”
His lips pursed and for a moment I regretted asking him that. I already know he’s mad and that shouldn’t have been the approach to this matter. I should be apologizing and not trying to expect something when I made no move to show
remorse.
He glared sharply at me. “Is that why you’re here.”
“No–actually yes.”
“Nate Bisley?” a voice called from the door. “You have a package
He gave a nod and walked toward the troll and so did I. He reached for his package and I reached for mine. I ordered a box of pizza and I was hoping to share it with him but looks like he had other plans.
“So can we talk now?” I asked when we were done picking the lunch sent in. “I actually have some work to do.”
I looked over to find the ivory–skinned lady, Hailey on her desk. I exhaled and looked at Nate. He checked his package and it was lunch.
That was another way of confirming that he was pissed because Nate would usually walk to my table to force me to have lunch with him and if I say I’m not hungry? He already has a defense rehearsed on how I need coffee to make it past the rest of the day and shit.
But here he is, snuggling his box and acting like he didn’t just order lunch without me.
“Well, I have some preparations to do,” He responded, matching my tone.
“What’s that?” I asked curiously. “What preparation?”
He jerked a shoulder. “It’s against company policy to tell.”
“But we’re friends, you fucking asshole.”
“Are we?”
I exhaled. Okay, not now. This isn’t the right time to do this or whatever else you have hidden in your sleeves.
“Well, we’re colleagues. It’s against the company’s policy to give out information to the media but last Lehecked, I’m employed.”
“You’re wrong. The policy is not to spill anything to anyone, especially those with a sharp mouth.”
“What?” I asked looking at him wide–eyed. He walked away and swallowed hard..
“Wait!” I managed to say and walked to meet him. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have spoken to you that way?”
“Was that so difficult?” he asked with a grin and I frowned. Nate was getting even more complex than Marcus Hills but Marcus would always be the best mystery to unravel.
“I got you something, I scoffed. “You’ll be so thankful for this gift and you may even give me your car when you see it.”
