“What the fuck are you doing here. Miss Kanse? My brows miser get into a tight trix frown
“Please. please!!” she begged. Tlease return ”
1 frowned because I had absolutely no idea what she meant or what she was talking about.
Please Marcus- please just give it back.” Her hands reached for mine and she gently squeezed it, my muscles bunched together under her innocent touch and she withdrew her hands almost immediately
sorry I had to come like this but I need it.”
“Need what?” My voice was now huskier than I could control
“The book. My jotter. My grandma. Please please-
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I yelled getting irritated at the thought that she came over here just because of a damn jotter that is not even with me. I couldn’t stop thinking of the possibilities of lan and Paul walking in here and finding her–fuck, Ecan’t even bring myself to think of how crazy that would be.
She tried to touch me again and in that instant, I shoved her hands away but the unexpected shoving had her legs buckling which made her lose balance.
I acted on instinct and caught her right before she could fall. “Shit. Melissa?
Her eyes were still closed and only then did I notice she was sweating profusely. I crouched beside her and checked her pulse.
“Is something wrong?” Thomas asked and I shook my head. “No”
“Bat she’-”
“Hyperventilating,” I responded. “I can handle this.”
He gave a nod although he wasn’t convinced. “Just stay out and make sure no one else comes in until I tell you to. Hmm?”
“Yes sir.”
I turned my attention back to Melissa whose chest was rising and falling at an irregular rhythm.
I checked her eyes, and her pulse again. “Shit, she’s having a panic attack”
“Melissa,” I called sure that she could hear me. “Take a deep breath. Slow, deep breaths.”

Chapter 71
Melissa’s throat hollowed as she struggled to breathe.
“Yes, slow deep breaths. That’s it. Yes, keep on with that and this will be over before you know it.”
She dragged one more and then inhaled a sharp breath which had her eyes widened. She looked around before she scampered from my hands and then stood up,
“Are–are you okay?” I asked even though I knew she was. I just needed to understand why she’d be having a fucking panic attack. “Look, you can’t be moving like this.”
“Like how?” her forehead creased and I could sense that she was bout to get pissed or is it violent?
“What exactly is wrong with you?” I asked but I figured it was best we talked about it inside and not with my door wide open. “Come inside.”
She walked behind me and I walked to the slab to get her a glass of water. “Here.”
“Thanks but I just want my jotter.”
I suppressed annoyance,,“You must be joking. You just had a panic attack in my fucking house and the first thing you’re asking about is a jotter with your dam sexual fantasies?”
Premature scron clouded her face but she just licked her lips and bit her lower lip. “What did I forget?” she sneered. “Oh! I forgot to thank you for saving my life but you know what? I could as well be left in that condition if I’m not going to be getting my book back.”
Hrowned because she was only sounding like a child now. Fuck, how did I even get here? To be dealing with kids and-
“You know what kid? You have to go home.”
“I am not a fucking child,” she snapped.
“So what’s your excuse for acting like one? Can you just be an adult for once and explain why you’re even at my
house?”
It felt like she had another reason for coming here and I still couldn’t wrap my hands around it. Because who the fuck would take the risk to come back to a place they’ve been only once because of a book? It made no sense and what was even irritating me more was that she was acting like the panic attack was nothing.
Who experiences such a thing and still goes on to nag like a child?
I looked at her and scoffed. Her lips were curled up and she looked ready to go on with this childish attitude she was giving. “I’m going to ask you for the last time,” I told her and turned back to look at her. “What really brought you here?”
“I came to take my book.” Her response was short and stern.
“What makes you sure that your book is here?” I pinched my nose bridge and swiftly ran my hand through my hair. “You think I give a fuck about your fantasies that I have to steal your damn book? Those are very unrealistic fantasies and they’re only in books and whatever porn you watched.”
“Enough,” she retorted. A harsh exhale fumed from her nostrils. This is not about what you think of me. Please, just give me the book and-”
“And what? You really have to get back to your senses and leave before lan
gets
here.”
“I’m not leaving.”
