Chapter 7
Marcus
The world is not always as bleak as people think I make it.
For all intents and purposes, my life has as much color as a 22-year-old, trust fund, college student, only that I am richer and more powerful. And the colors that make up my fun are very much different, as a 39-year-old.
Including the occasional bars and nights out, I make it a deal to catch up with friends once in a while.
Well, friend, the only person worth the hassle is Paul.
Paul is everyone’s man, an equally shrewd businessman, with a keen eye for making a profit. And also the best person in the world to have beside you at the bar. There is never a dull moment with Paul, and the world almost seems to revolve around him whenever he is in his element.
But lately, things have been in the worst possible luck for him, the crowning event of all being the death of his twin brother, conveniently named Peter, who was an equal son of a gun, until he was the unworthy victim of cancer.
The going in and out of hospitals had, of course, drained Paul so much that even after his brother’s death, he had only become a shadow of his former self.
The grief had overtaken him so much that every other thing had taken a step backward in his head.
But over time he had begun to come out of his shell and just throw himself into work it took a while for me to get him to open up to me about how much he felt.
He did, and slowly, he let it all out with me. We visited his brother’s grave and talked about their childhood, even though I was a part of it, and over time, we set out and completed what was left on his brother’s bucket list, before finally pouring his ash into the ocean, as he requested.
The whole ordeal was a great bonding experience for us both as it brought us closer.
But we hadn’t done much since then, so when Paul showed up ar my office and offered to take me to drinks that night, it was quite a surprise.
“I see Paul the man is back and ready to take on the world again I said between smiles.
“You bet yourself I do.” He replied. “Work has been twice as grueling as it was before I left. I have been at the office since last week, and I cannot take much more before I will fall and join my brother in the great beyond.”
him.
uldn’t help but faugh as he said that, and even he gave a small laugh before swishing and downing the drink I offered
“Lord knows how long it has been since I have had a proper night out. It has just been work and work and work, and no rest for this son of man. The work that goes into staying rich has become even more grueling than getting rich in the first place. I am out of it, and I think I am at the point where I deserve a break, or at least a good night out with some women to ease my stressed body
“Is that you talking, or the frustration?”
“Why can’t it be an alliance? I and the frustration taking a stand against the system that has turned me into a mule”
Well, You have your I
pick of things to do, where do you want to start?”
“Just one night is all I ask. Is that too much for a man to ask?”

Chapter 7
“It is when the man is the CEO of a company as big as mine.” I said as a matter of fact.
11
“But if you delegate all you have to do for the next week and come with me to the Caribbean, we could have more fun than a regular night out can offer. All my treat
“A free week at this point, sounds too tempting to be true”
“But it is. I’ll pay the bills, you have the fun. You can have as many women as you fancy”
“What about you and your work? From what I know your backlog is even larger than mine. And you have been here the whole time, you lazy **k”
I laughed too hard at the last remark. It is true, that I do have a larger backlog to take care of, but it is more meetings and calls and deals to make, than actual work.
Melissa has not been the most efficient secretary, and she is still undergoing training/probation period, I still have to delegate some of the other tasks to other assistants around the company, but I am not a secretary, and that has been a most daunting task, hence the backlog of calls and meetings
And as if Paul read something, he asked.
“How come you still don’t have a secretary?”
“Of course, I do have a secretary, the prettiest one you can find on this side of the Atlantic.”
“You are serious?”
“Yes, serious. Pretty young college girl, working her way through school on her own”
“Doesn’t seem to be the best secretary you have had”
“Yeah, probably the most inexperienced, if you ask me. But she learns pretty fast. understands things well, and is actually coming up good for a newbie”
“But you still need someone to fill in, while you keep messing with this one”
“Oh come on. I am not messing with the kid.”
“So why the emphasis on her being pretty
“Because she is
“But…”
“No buts, she is pretty, and I am not messing with her
“So she is not a very good secretary, but she is pretty, but you are not messing with her, but she is pretty, and backlog of work, but she is pretty, and you are not messing with her?”
“Yes
“When are you going to get a secretary?”
you
have a
I looked at him in amusement. he obviously doesn’t believe I am not messing with Melissa, so I decided not to pursue it.
It is hard to believe when I think about it. A not-too-competent worker whose main attribute is her beauty must of course be kept on because of it. But who cares? Let Paul think what he wants
And like a miracle, Melissa walks in at that moment.
