I took a few strides to Andra’s table with the file I needed her to sign. It was going to be a lot working with her and so I just needed to start acting on it.
Maybe seeing her face more often and handing files to her every live minutes would help me dislike her a lot less.
She turned to me and her scowl deepened. Well, maybe not. I’ll just have to tolerate her.
“Here,” I said handing it to her. “Those are the files that I need you to sign on before I send them back to the management.”
“Aren’t you such a cutie?” she sneered and turned back to look at her screen. “When did you stop being a college student again?” this time, her brows raised like she was really waiting for me to give a response. “Look hun, I don’t need you to teach me my job. I’ve been here long enough than you’ll ever be.”
I dropped it on her desk and turned to leave but I would be a little petty right?
“I’m sorry, Andra. I just think three years is also a lot without any promotion. How about you help this fresh college graduate with what she needs or stand being reported?”
She wilted on the spot. “The nerves.”
“The wrinkles,” I blurted back. “Try using a lighter shade of concealer next time. It helps to hide wrinkles.”
I walked away and strode back to my table. “And before I forget, fifteen minutes tops. I need it before

break.”
I lowered myself to my chair and exhaled audibly. Nate swivelled to face me and I could see the look on his face. Like he was surprised about my reaction but he didn’t have to— I have my way of putting everyone in their place once it gets too much

Hell, I miss Chloe because she’s my friend but I also miss her cause I have to do her work while the HR representative acts so slow in getting a replacement. There’s no way that Hillstate does not have applicants. They have a dozen of applications every day but fuck— no one wants to get to that.
“Are you even listening to me?” Nate asked and I realized I wasn’t. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn’t realize he was talking to me. I hit my head with my hands gently. “Sorry, I’m a little distracted.”
“I can see that. You need to get your head in order.”
I turned to look at him. “Well, how do I do that when you’re the distraction?”
His brows furrowed. “Now I’m the distraction?” A mocking laughter followed and I shook my head.
“Will you at least tell me what was up with you yesterday?”
I frowned again because three out of five times with Nate would always make a scowl appear on my face. “Yesterday?” I reiterated. “Yesterday was my off.”

“I know that too.
“So what are you asking about? If you can’t recall what an off day is, I’ll tell you. An off day is when you get a break from work and you of course.”
“Don’t be silly, Melissa.”
I grinned. “I need to be silly to face you and Andra. You both are pests and you live on it.”
“That’s what pests are supposed to do but I’m curious, am I more of a pest than him?”
squeezed my nose but when I followed his line of vision, I was tongue–tied. Ian was walking toward us and I totally forgot how to act focused.
“Hey,” Ian said when he finally got to my desk. My stomach did that little tightening thing and for a moment I wished I had a better approach. I didn’t want to be the ex who looked like she didn’t have her life In control.
“Hey, I responded back. “Long time no see, Ian.”
“Is that some form of formal sentence you rehearsed?”
He sounded rude. Rude enough for me to turn to Nate and tell him no one would ever take the trophy of the biggest jerk from Ian but I didn’t.
“Hmm. How can I help you?” I managed to ask instead.

He did nothing but scoff and when I licked my lips, I felt a rush of anger. I looked back at Nate and his hands brushed against mine. “You don’t have to say anything.”
“Hell she does,” Ian blared. “Unless I’m right about being the reason she’s here and in that case, you can’t help me.”
“Ian you don’t have to be a fucking jerk,” I told him.
“Why not? Cause your new boy is going to beat me, huh?” he grinned. “I’m the reason you’re here.”
“No, you’re not.”
Marcus looked pissed at his son and just when he got closer, he frowned. “Let’s talk in my office,” Marcus instructed and walked away.
Ian probably wasn’t expecting to be chastised since he’s been a spoilt brat all his life but he did as instructed. “Fucking asshole,” I blurted when he passed me. I was sure he heard it and I was glad he did.
I returned my attention to the table and then looked over the counter and found Andra grinning. “Are you files or do I have to file for incompetence?”
