Chapter 66
The ne seemed longer than ever and I couldn’t contam the emotions in me. I wasn’t shocked, I already knew Marcus well
ugh to know that be freaks out when it comes to his personal lite
Of course, I can see through that act. He’s scared but what I dont know is why he’s scared. I scoffed at the thoughts welling in my bead and for the sab time since the ride, I leaned forward.
Srcles going to tell me?” asked Thomas who just wanted a peaceful ride. It wasn’t that difficult Ljust wanted to know if it was Marcus who instructed him to take me home.
“You know I not going to tell your Boss”
Well I’m not obligated to keep you entertained during the ride
I looked at the side mirror and caught the scowl on his face. Well, mine deepened because he was only making it really
“That’s all know you’re not obligated to even respond to me but at least, tell me.”
“Do I look like Siri?” he asked and laughed. I laughed too because we both know how my experience with Siri went. Thomas wasn’t a bad guy, he was just too focused on his job that he wasn’t even in for a little chit–chat.
I stopped asking any more questions and just kept mute for some minutes. I’m sure he must have been wondering if I was okry and I could see his eyes glance at the mirror a few times to make sure I wasn’t dead.
I didn’t want to say anything else. I really didnt even have anything else to say. Well, I did but they were just a bunch of questions and I know Thomas would never answer my questions. He’d literally give me an automated response like Siri about having no idea of his boss‘ personal life but we all know it’s true.
Nobody calls Marcus by his first name but I heard him call him by his first name. I have no idea if that was because we were alone so I decided to confirm.
“How long have you known Mr. Hills?” I mumbled from the backseat but I could tell he heard me cause his eyes looked at
the mirror.
“Tim” he started, not taking his hands from the steering wheel or his eyes from the road. “I’ve known Marcus for a long long time.”
I gave a nod. It confirmed my suspicion of course. He wasn’t just a chauffeur, he knew Marcus more than most people, me
inclusive.
“Is that all?” he asked and I thought it was just a sarcastic question but he paused. “We’re here.”
“Wait, what?” I looked out and realized he was telling the truth. We were just a few blocks away from my building. “Right.”
I opened the door and slid out. He did the same and I just assumed he wanted to make sure I came down safely.
“I already slammed the door,” I told him. “Doesn’t Marcus have cameras on the doors too?”
He didn’t respond to that. He didn’t have to because now, I was just being a jerk who deserves to be ignored.
When I finally got to the floor, I turned back and looked at him. He didn’t have to follow me inside my house. I already knew from the moment he took the lift with me, that it was all Marcus‘ instruction.
Marcus sort of believes in watching me get in to know I’m safe but again— I have a counter thought to that. What if the

danger isn’t from outside buy inside? Well, if there was any dam danger, I sure as hell should be saying my last goodbyes.
“This is my door,” I announced to Thomas who was standing some feet away like a bodyguard. “I’m safe now.” I bent my mouth. “From unseen dangers, of course.”
He hummed and as he turned to leave, I felt like being Melissa again. “Is Marcus always like this?”
He turned to look at me with a raised eyebrow and I matched it by lifting my shoulders. “Dominant jerk who always gets what he wants and acts the way he wants?” I added.
“I am in no position to discuss about my Boss‘ personal life.”
I sneered. “He’s my Boss too. You know that?”
“Is he?” he asked and I felt a sudden urge to just walk away and slam the door behind me. “That’s an interesting information,” Thomas added.
I shut my eyes innerving frustration and gave one small nod. “Thanks. I’m safe like I said a few minutes ago. You can now leave.”
He gave a nod and turned to walk away.

“Thanks for bringing me home too,” I muttered as he walked away. I scoffed back at my lock and strutted my keys in before getting inside. I threw my bag on the couch and lowered my stance to take off my shoes.
Having to wear the wedge again because Marcus has nothing in that house that belongs to a female was quite annoying. Well, maybe it’s a little comforting but it’s annoying that I had to wear them.
When I finally got them off my feet, I tossed them to the floor and then massaged my toes. I picked up my phone the moment the lights came on and I saw it was Nate calling.
I put the phone on loudspeaker and dropped it on the couch. “You don’t know when to stop calling, do you?”
“Really?” he scoffed. “I should have left you to die.”
“Well, I wasn’t dying and I made it clear by asking you to not call me.”
“That was yesterday and I respected that. I called this morning.”
“As early as 6:00 am. Really?”
“Yeah. Aren’t you the one who claims to be up by 5?”
“Yes, but 6 am was way too early to be calling me.” I paused. “Thanks though. I know you were calling to make sure I was fine.”
“No, I was calling to know if you finally gave up the ghost cause what fucking sickness would make you leave in the middle of work?”
I shut my eyes because Nate was just being Nate.
