Chapter 55
Melissa
I can’t recall the last time I had this much fun. Chloe is the life of the party and she kept making jokes about sleeping off and missing her own wedding.
We kept walking around the fascinating outdoor market adorned with colorful stalls and twinkling lights.
The air was filled with the scent of freshly baked goods and the sound of cheerful music.
We kept checking out different vendors cause Chloe didn’t have a specific place in mind and that was okay. She didn’t want to spend so extravagantly and that was why she chose us to accompany us.
Well, I don’t know what that would have meant but to me; it shows that she found me modest.
“Oh my God, let’s check in here guys.”
We walked into the shop and Nate closed the opaque glass behind us. I didn’t say thank you cause he should know better than to let females open the door themselves. I mean, does he not have sisters? And the girls he keeps boasting of? Sigh.
The shop was a beautiful and cozy place filled with stunning wedding dresses, sparkling jewelry, and elegant decorations.
Chloe walked to the well–lit and organized corner, with rows of dresses on display.
“Are you the bride?” A beautiful brunette appeared asking me.
“What? No no,” I blurted. “She’s over there.”
“Oh, sorry hunny. I thought you were and-” she said turning to Nate. “Him, the groom.”
“No fucking way,” I blurted. “He’s actually engaged so maybe he’ll come here soon, but for now we should focus on Chloe. She’s over there checking on some gowns.”
“Okay. I’ll help her out. See you around uh-”
“Melissa.”
“Of course.”
When she walked away, Nate turned to me with a scowl.
“What?” I asked him. “Isn’t it high time you pick one of your bitches and settle down?”
He didn’t get to answer my question before Chloe came running to us. She wasn’t really running but you get the point.
“What do you think of this?”
“I think you can afford something better,” I said slightly turning my lips to the side
“Is it bad?”
Nate hummed. “No, but I’d spend the entire day laughing if I was the groom.”
With that, we both laughed out loud and tried to stifle more laughter from escaping
our mouths.
Chloe exhaled and returned to the dressing room. It felt so nice having to do this with her. She’s got barely a week here and I think I’m beginning to miss her.

“So,” Nate started and I shook my head.
“Don’t even start.“..
He frowned. “What do you mean Melissa Kane? I wasn’t even saying anything.”

“Yeah, but you obviously wanted to and please, for the love of Chloe, don’t get us fighting. Let’s just make this day a beautiful one and make you useful. Just so you know, you’re only here so you can help her pick her fiance’s gift.”
The look on his face didn’t show that I hit a button with my words as intended. Instead, it looked like he was stifling a wicked smirk.
I frowned but when I realized what was happening, I turned and looked at Chloe who had her brows raised.
“You see?” Nate murmured. “She couldn’t even keep that one.”
“You’re going to shut the fuck up,” I blurted pointing at him. I turned back to Chloe and twitched my lips. “Chloe, I promise I didn’t say more than that and I didn’t even want to say it. I just–I needed him to keep shut.”
“You both are crazy,” Chloe blurted, shaking her head. I could tell she was already having a handful of us but that’s the fun right?
“Over here,” the bridal shop owner called waving.
“Oh my god, that looks…”
“Beautiful,” Nate finished and I gave a nod. This should be the first thing we were both agreeing on. Or no, the second because we both agreed the first thing she tried was trash.
Chloe tried it and even she was in awe of of how she looked.
“You look so beautiful,” I complimented walking closer to her.
“I’m definitely taking this.”
I gave a nod. “You should.”
A few minutes later, the gown was packaged alongside other little things
got and then it was handed to her.
“I’m trying to not get a heart attack before looking at my bill,” she muttered and we laughed. She brought out her card and passed it to the lady.
“Here
you go.”
“Oh! You don’t have to ma’am. The bills have already been taken care of.”
A frown appeared on our foreheads, mine most visible because who knew about this?
“Wait, by who?” Nate asked.
“Melissa Kane.”
I shut my eyes I hoped the lady would be smart enough to not reveal my name but I guess I was wrong.
“Wait what? Mels??”
I gave a nod. “It was just my little way of saying congratulations, thank you for being a great find, and of course, I’ll miss you.” Chloe pulled me into a hug before I could even finish my sentence and I smiled.

It was so great seeing I could make someone happy,
and
it made me feel contented.
“I guess we should have some drink then,” Nate suggested. “To seal this.”

We
agreed and went over to the nearest bar. I didn’t feel like getting drunk SO
I ordered a
shot
of vodka soda.
“Cheers to a happy married life and better opportunities for Chloe,” Nate said raising his glass and I did the same and we all clinked the glasses. “Cheers!”
It really did feel like the evening shouldn’t end. Hearing jokes about how Chloe used to snuggle her boyfriend into her parent’s house when they were younger made me smile.
“Aww, that’s really sweet,” I blurted at the end of You’re lucky Chloe.”
“And you’re unlucky, Melissa,” Nate interrupted.
the story.
“Too bad not everyone gets to experience a love true
like yours.
I I rolled
my eyes
at him and
he laughed
out loud. “Well,
you’re not alone.”
