Chapter 42
Marcus
The sunlight strobed through the window and flashed over my eyelids, waking me from a disjointed dream. Images of Kyra had combined with the vivid memories of pain.
It was a dream I’d had often, but this one was different. There was someone else there. I knew I had to protect whoever it was, but I didn’t know why. Weary and stymied, I pushed the inges from my mind and shielded my eyes from the dancing glare.
I struggled to get out of bed but the morning hard–on made me pause. There was only one thing I could think of and it wasn’t even the pink head who sucked my cock a few days ago.
In all the years I had done this, no woman had ever made me lose control. Melissa had a strange influence on me. One that drew out the worst of my impulses unchecked.
I couldn’t let her impel me like that so I sat up and turned away from the bedroom window. The morning sun was far too bright for my mood.
Glancing around the dated room, I thought about the agenda for the day. I’d have to call Jimmy and tell him to check out the estate for me. It shouldn’t be a problem for him, he was too good at his job and I could trust him on that.
A few of my employees did well. Jimmy should be given an award for his consistency same as Chloe. Nate’s been doing well, I just hate how attracted he seems to her. Andra has never missed the opportunity to flash her tits in my face but she’s not my type.
In conclusion, I’ve never had an affair with any of my employees because I like to keep this professional but I guess that has changed now that Melissa is in the picture.
“Goddamnit, Marcus. Get her out of your head.”
Taking that determination, I used it as motivation to get up and start my day. I headed downstairs after my shower and set to work. Well, I’d be skipping breakfast.
Dialing Jimmy through the messenger app, I put my phone on speaker and placed it on the table while it rang. He didn’t take his call so I lowered the phone and tried buttoning my shirt but my phone rang.
Thinking it was Jimmy, I raised the phone but it was Paul.
“What am I supposed to do with you?”
His gruff voice came through too loud on the tinny speakers.
“Say thank you, maybe?”
I scoffed. “Thank you?”
“You know you needed it, man. You just couldn’t bring yourself to say it ‘cause you feared it’d be some form of disrespect to Kyra but let me tell you, my friend, that even Kyra is glad you got that release.”
“I didn’t get any fucking release and if you’ll excuse me, I have a bunch of important calls to make.”
“Well, that’s why you have a secretary except you’ve fired her.” He laughed. “Or wait. Did she resign too?”
Good lord, we can’t be talking about Melissa.
I rubbed my face and groaned. “No, and you know what? Thank you.”

“Do you know how inmy calls I had to make to get your a perfect match fle paused. “Alor”
What happened to telling me you were bringing in some random girl to suck my cock?” I was getting slightly annoyed.
“Chill the fuck out, Marcus. It was meant to be a surprise
“I didn’t need to be, We’re adults and we should behave as such
“How ironic coming from you. A chuckle followed and I had no option but to give in. Elell, it was hard not laughing while conversing with Paul.
“So what’s next?” Paul asked and I adjusted the last set of buttons on my shirt and walked toward the door.
“Work calls.”
“Right. Well, you’ve got to work for two. I don’t think I’ll be leaving Joliet anytime soon.”
“What???” I asked.
“You heard me. Not my ult you wouldn’t loosen up to experience something this beautiful. Got to go man. I think she’s coming out from the bathroom and you know what that-”
He didn’t finish up before he hung up and I shook my head.
I slid into the back seat and gestured for the driver to kick the car into life. I shoved out my phone, scrolling through some texts including Ian’s text.
He wants a vacation.
Well, everyone needs one but a part of me wondered if this vacation he was asking for was for him and Melissa.
I swallowed hard at the thought and responded to his text saying I’d send him some money and get everything ready.
Marcus: But you know our deal.
Ian: Yes Dad.
I read his response and gave a small nod. Our deal has always been simple. No matter where you are, you must meet up with the Doctor’s appointment twice a week.
“We’ve arrived, Mr. Hills.”
I raised my head from my phone and realized how we were already in the company’s parking lot.
“Thanks, Thomas. I’ll text you when I’m ready for a pickup.”
His eyes meet mine in the rearview. “Yes, sir.”
I exit my car and step right into the company, using the opaque glass. The security guard opened the door, allowing me to
pass.
“Good day, Mr. Hills.”
A small nod and a faint smile was all it took to get past most of the employees until I got
into my
office.
I took off my jacket and turned to the table but something was missing. Every day since the past month, I’ve been walking into a cup of coffee made by no other person but my secretary.
I brushed it off and got back to work but the moment I checked my wristwatch and saw it was already two hours into proper

work time, I frowned.
Where is she?
I tried condensing the urge to call her each time she crossed my mind and that should be about fifteen times in the last three minutes.
When I couldn’t help it anymore, I rose from my custom–built mahogany desk and buttoned my coat.
“Let’s see where she is.”
