Chapter 14
Marcus
If I was asked to take a break from work, I probably would reject it.
Nothing takes my mind off things like work; a cup of coffee and my task book in my hands. I became a billionaire at 26. A self-made billionaire and that must be why I’ve made so much fame for myself.
People are easily swept off to see a young man achieve things they ordinarily would attribute to old age.
Real estate has always been my dream job. I wanted to own estates and buy and sell at higher prices. A lucrative business and in no time, it became the most popular in New York City.
1 gazed at the screen of the computer in front of me and clicked the mouse.
The page was still loading so I decided to swivel.
I checked again and the page had completely loaded; this time, it showed the images of lands and properties I had requested the Property Manager to send me
They were all in Santorini, Greece. A country I have decided to have my investments spread on.
Nothing could beat stretching from the shores you’re known for Jan doesn’t do much because I want him to focus on graduating with a good result.
That was probably just the lie I told myself because, in the real sense, everyone at 20 was schooling and doubling with work. Take for instance, his girlfriend and my secretary. She started working at age 17 and even up until this moment, she was still working
I just made the excuse because I figured lan’s heart condition could get worse if he stressed so much.
I already promised his mother before her death that I’d do everything possible to make sure our son lives.
A knock on the door interrupted my moment of meditation and when the door opened, Melissa walked in with a bright smile. I must say she was doing well. In just a month, she had been able to grasp major knowledge about Real estate.
I take it that perhaps she is taking extra classes just to impress me with her knowledge.
“Good morning, Mr. Hills, she greeted and walked toward the mahogany table. Tve compiled the list of properties you wanted to review today”
Oh right. Speaking of those, I totally forgot but that’s why I have a secretary right? Luckily, she was doing her job. “There are four conceivable listings, and I’ve prepared the documents for each one.”
“Have you?” I asked, surprised at her speed too. I took the documents from her and she returned her hands to her side, gently touching her fingers.
I took one quick look at the first document and tossed it to the table before opening the second one with a black cover. Thank you. Ms. Kane. Let’s start with the downtown office space What’s the yard footage, and have there been any recent
renovations?”
She paused. Td have to speak with the property manager for that one but the second crucial one has approximately 3,500 square feet, and it underwent some rénovations early this year. Say about four months ago.”
*Excellent. Have we received any offers, and what’s the current market trend in that area?”

My laptop pinged and turned to look at the screen.
Jimmy says the property is attracting attention, and we have a few scheduled viewings for this week.”
I gave a nod. Jimmy is one of the few staff that put his all into the company’s success. He’s a few years younger than me say about four years younger and I knew that when I went through his file for a background check
I always go through my staff’s background files just to be able to understand them better. A big fan of psychology but that wasn’t going to get me the money I needed so I ventured into this a host of other businesses.
Psychology, however, remained my first love.
That’s promising.” I told her. “Schedule a meeting with the seller to discuss pricing strategy.”
“Okay, sir.”
“What else do I have for today?”
“Not much. I guess a few hours of rest.
“I don’t need rest,” I responded hastily, “Not when there’s a lot of work that needs supervising
“But I thought there’s a project supervisor for that.”
“You thought, or you know?”
She paused. “I know.”
“Good. Now, I’m sure you also know that a supervisor also needs to be supervised. No hard feelings, that’s how every industry works.” Looking at her and seeing she had so many questions to ask, I brushed that off. I can’t patronize her Inquisitiveness.
“And for the week?” I inquired.
“Uh yes. The meeting with the foundation and uh- the Newfoundland event.”
Oh yes,
their annual conference where all the shareholders come together to discuss. I succeeded in retaining a 74 percent share in Newfoundland. I’m unarguably the largest shareholder of the tech company.
“Noted.”
“Can I ask something?” She inquired, looking at me.
“Go ahead, Miss Kane”
“What’s the Newfoundland event about?”
“It’s solely a conference where innovative ideas are thrown about and new information is exchanged among experts. Just a bunch of professionals with deep knowledge of the proposed topics delivering speeches where they present their ideas and conclusions on new or existing data.”
Oh
“Yes, very much different from the event happening at the foundation.
“I know that,” she said with a frown.
I wasn’t inferring that she didn’t, just a sentence to avoid confusion.

The dismissive exhalation that came after must have given her the not in that our little conversation had to end because she cleared her throat and turned to leave.
She got to the doorway and opened the door to leave but stopped. “Can I at least follow you to the foundation? As your Personal Assistant,” she added.
I c***d an eyebrow and then thought of it. “Okay, Miss Kane
“Thank you so much, she rejoiced right in front of me. “Is there anything I should do? Know?”
gave a small nod. “Yes. Dress well?
