Chapter 13
When her plane touched down in Lunaris, it was just past midnight. The sprawling city’s lights glimmered beneath a waxing moon, a fitting welcome to the ancient sanctuary of the Southern
Packs.
The border guard reviewed her documents, asking standard questions. “Miss Iris Blackwood, what is the intended length of your stay?”
“I’ve been accepted to the Lunaris Academy of Arts. My program will take two years.”
Her confident response satisfied the guard, who stamped her papers. Winter – no, Iris now – collected her luggage and stepped into her new life.
Using her new phone, she searched for her hotel and hailed a rideshare. The driver, a wolf from a Northern pack who had settled in Lunaris years ago, immediately picked up on her accent.
“Just arrived from the Northern Territories?” the driver asked warmly. “I made that move myself five years ago.”
Finding comfort in speaking with another Northern wolf, Iris listened intently as the driver shared insider tips about Lunaris – which neighborhoods were pack–friendly, which restaurants served the best rare steaks, and which areas to avoid during full moons.
At the hotel, they exchanged phone numbers before parting. In her room, Iris finally let her guard down. After a quick dinner and shower, she collapsed into bed, her wolf finally relaxing enough to truly rest.

Over the next few days, Iris filled her new space with necessities, coordinating with her future roommate via text. She settled into local pack life naturally. Her cooking skills earned her a place in the international student circle, and she formed close bonds with two she wolves living down the

hall.
They showed her around the city’s pack–friendly districts, introduced her to local customs, and shared their favorite spots for full moon runs. Her talent for photography earned her respect in the local arts community, and by her tenth day in Lunaris, she’d completed her first paid commission.
The next morning brought the arrival of her roommate – Sarah Silver, a young she–wolf barely past her first transformation. They clicked immediately, spending the afternoon exploring local markets together.
As the months passed, the Academy’s opening day approached. The night before classes began, Iris prepared a feast for her new friends. After several glasses of wine, the group began sharing stories. Someone started telling tales of past mates, and soon everyone was contributing their own experiences.
Iris laughed at their outrageous stories until her sides hurt.
Sarah, rubbing her back through her giggles, asked casually, “Everyone’s shared their secrets. What about you, Iris? Any mate stories to tell?”
